Barcelona Candlelight Concert Review: Is It Worth It?

While the setting is beautiful and the atmosphere is unique, it can be hard to tell if the experience truly lives up to the hype–or the price.

Is the Barcelona Candlelight Concert Worth It?

I went to the Taylor Swift Candlelight tribute at Sant Pau Recinte Modernista, and honestly, I loved it! 

The hour-long performance by a talented four-person string ensemble was so impressive–you could easily recognize each song, and it was hard not to sing along. 

I chose the Zone B seating on the upper level, which still had a great view, but next time I’d probably just upgrade to Zone A seating to be closer to the stage. 

The atmosphere, the stunning venue with incredible architecture, and how smoothly everything was run made it feel really special. 

The only downside was that the brief explanations before some of the songs were in Catalan, but it didn’t take away from the experience at all–I definitely think it’s worth it!

From the Gaudí Crypt to the iconic Palau de la Música Catalana, these are some of the most famous buildings in Barcelona and each setting adds its own charm and character. 

I went to the one at Sant Pau Recinte Modernista (a former hospital and a UNESCO World Heritage Site), and the modernist architecture alone was worth showing up for. 

Other popular venues include Hotel El Palace, Santa Maria del Pi Basilica, and the Real Círculo Artístico. 

No matter which location you choose, the ambiance is part of what makes these concerts feel so special.

One of the best parts of the Barcelona Candlelight concerts is the range of tributes you can choose from. 

Performances cover everything from classical favorites like Vivaldi and Mozart to modern artists like Coldplay, Queen, ABBA, and even Bad Bunny. 

Some concerts mix artists–like Queen vs. ABBA or Ed Sheeran vs. Coldplay–which makes the setlist even more interesting. 

New shows are announced regularly and are usually scheduled a few months in advance, so it’s a good idea to check the upcoming schedule if you have specific dates in mind.

Candlelight concert seating is divided into zones—usually A, B, and C—with Zone A being the closest to the stage. 

Some smaller venues may only offer Zones A and B. 

Seating within your zone is first come, first served, so when you arrive, you’ll receive a card for your zone and an attendant will guide you to your seat. 

If you want the best spot within your section, it’s a good idea to get there early. Doors typically open about 45 minutes before the concert starts.

When you arrive, staff will scan your QR code ticket and hand you a card with your seating zone. 

The check-in process is quick and easy, and everyone I interacted with was really friendly and helpful. 

You’ll then walk down a candle lit hallway into the concert space, where attendants will guide you to your seat based on your zone.

Concert

The performance lasts about an hour and features around 12 to 13 songs. 

My Taylor Swift concert had a four-person orchestra–three violins and a cello–and each song was instantly recognizable. 

There were short introductions in Catalan between some pieces, but you didn’t need to understand them to enjoy the music. 

The atmosphere was relaxed, and the acoustics made it feel really intimate.  Plus, the music is so good you might even want to cry!

Tips for Attending a Barcelona Candlelight Concert

Follow these tips to make the most of your experience:

• Arrive early for the best seating: Seating within each zone is first come, first served, so showing up early gives you a better chance at getting the best view. Venues usually open about 45 minutes before the concert starts.

• Upgrade to Zone A seating if you want the best videos: Zone A gets you closest to the stage, which is best if you want clear views and better angles for filming or taking photos.

• Book your tickets in advance: Candlelight concerts often sell out, especially on weekends or for popular tributes, so it’s best to book your tickets early to lock in your preferred date and seating.

• Consider the 9PM show to save money: The 9PM show is sometimes a bit cheaper than the 7PM show so consider booking the later option if you want to save money.

• Fully charge your phone: You’ll probably want to take photos or videos during the performance, so make sure your phone is fully charged. 

• Plan your meals before or after the show: Concerts are typically scheduled at 7PM or 9PM, so make a dinner reservation accordingly since food and drinks aren’t available at the venue.
