I live in Spain and recently stayed at this hotel in the heart of Málaga’s Centro Histórico. 

It’s a brand new, modern property in one of the best areas of the city, so I was curious to see if it lived up to expectations. 

In this honest Hotel Catalonia Puerta del Mar Málaga review, I’ll share my full experience, including what I loved, what I didn’t, and whether I’d recommend it for your stay.

I think Hotel Catalonia Puerta del Mar is definitely worth it if you’re looking for a modern, affordable hotel in an excellent location in Málaga. 

It’s brand new, super stylish, and has everything you need for a comfortable stay, from spacious rooms with comfortable beds to a beautifully decorated bathroom. 

The location really can’t be beat, since you’re right in the heart of the historic center and within walking distance to all the major sights, restaurants, museums, and even the port. 

The only downsides for me was that there’s no pool or rooftop, the rooms don’t have bathtubs, and the gym is pretty basic. 

Still, for the price point, I think the pros definitely outweigh the cons, and the overall value for money is really good.

The hotel is located at Calle Puerta del Mar, 5,  right in the heart of Málaga’s Centro Histórico neighborhood.

This is one of the best areas to stay in Málaga, and is extremely walkable and safe, with countless restaurants, shops, and cafes nearby.

And if you want to hit the beach, Malagueta Beach is only about a 20-minute walk from the hotel.

The entrance to the hotel feels a little hidden, set on a quieter side street just steps away from a busy area. 

My room overlooked the street and had a small balcony, which did come with a tiny bit of noise. But even as a light sleeper, I still slept very well and didn’t find it disruptive.

I stayed in a Double Room and was pleasantly surprised by how spacious and comfortable it was. 

I was given a corner room with two small balconies in the bedroom and even another balcony in the bathroom. 

The design felt really fresh and contemporary, with navy and burgundy tones and modern furnishings.

The king-sized bed was very comfortable, and there was a small sitting area with a table, a flat-screen TV, a minibar, a safe with a built-in outlet, and a spacious closet with bathrobes and slippers.

The bathroom was beautifully decorated with marble wallpaper that matched the marble detailing inside the shower. It had a rain shower, toilet, bidet, and a sink area. 

Overall, the room was super comfortable, and my only complaints were that there was no bathtub and the hair dryer was a bit frustrating because you had to hold down the power button the entire time to keep it running.

The hotel has a restaurant on the second floor that’s beautifully decorated. 

It serves a breakfast buffet in the mornings, which isn’t included in the room rate, but you can add it for around €21 per person. 

I didn’t eat here, but the breakfast spread looked extensive, with hot dishes, pastries, fruit, and more.

There’s also a Gastrobar, serving Mediterranean food and drinks in the afternoon and evening, but during my stay, it always seemed empty. 

It could just be because the hotel is still new but it’s not really a vibey spot for a drink!

There is a small gym at the hotel with a treadmill, stationary bike, elliptical, pulley machine, and free weights. 

It’s pretty small but still functional if you want to get a workout in during your stay.

The service at the hotel was very friendly and efficient, though not exceptional. 

I had a couple of minor issues during my stay—the phone in my room didn’t work and the internet stopped working in my room on the second day. 

The staff responded quickly, but the problems weren’t able to be fixed before I checked out. 

For the price point, I think the service is perfectly acceptable, but don’t expect luxury-level attentiveness.

In my opinion, the Hotel Catalonia Puerta del Mar offers great value for money. 

The location is unbeatable, the design is new and modern, and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. 

While it’s not perfect, it’s affordable for what you get, especially considering it’s brand new. 

If you’re looking for a stylish, central base in Málaga, it’s an excellent option.
