Best Sandwiches in Barcelona Spain

These are the best sandwiches Barcelona has to offer:

1. Compá

📍 Location: Barceloneta | Gracia

Starting at the top of the list of best Barcelona sandwich shops has to be Compá, a counter-serve style restaurant serving up the best Italian paninis in Barcelona!

This popular sandwich shop has two locations in Barcelona: one in Barceloneta and another in Gracia. The Barceloneta spot recently relocated to a larger space just down the street with more seating. Plus, it’s just steps from the beach so you can grab a sandwich to-go and enjoy it by the sea.

Specializing in fresh Caprese-style paninis on perfectly toasted, fluffy focaccia, Compá’s sandwiches are unbeatable. After trying many options around the city, I can confidently say Compá is the best!

My personal favorite is the Sibari, loaded with mortadella, sun-dried tomatoes, provolone, and pesto. They also have other options featuring mortadella, pistachio, burrata, and more, and you can pair your sandwich with a glass of red wine (vino tinto) for around 2 euros.

It does get pretty busy on the weekends, so definitely try to add this spot to your Barcelona itinerary during the week to avoid a long line.

2. Paninaro

📍 Location: El Born | Gracia

Paninaro is another must-visit spot for Italian panini lovers, with locations in both El Born and Gracia.

This small, counter-serve restaurant offers limited seating—just a couple of barrel tables outside—making it a better option for take away.

Like Compá, Paninaro serves fresh focaccia sandwiches packed with delicious ingredients like mortadella, pistachio cream, pesto, and burrata.

The paninis here are similar in style to Compá’s but tend to be bigger and more filling, so I’d recommend sharing one if you’re not super hungry.

You can also customize your sandwich, which is perfect if you like to add your own twist to their delicious combinations.

3. OiMa il Crostone

📍 Location: Gothic Quarter

OiMa il Crostone is a fantastic little sandwich spot tucked away in the Gothic Quarter, not far from Plaça Reial.

With limited seating inside, it’s the perfect place to grab a panini and enjoy it in one of the nearby plazas.

OiMa specializes in Neapolitan-style Italian paninis, and what sets them apart is their bread—it’s much crispier than other places, giving each bite an extra crunch.

Run by Italians, this spot offers large, filling sandwiches, which are all named after women. I tried the Antonietta, which came with Parma ham, mozzarella, tomato, lettuce, and a touch of mayonnaise.

It’s definitely a must-try if you’re exploring the Gothic Quarter!

4. Gallo Nero

📍 Location: Gothic Quarter

Gallo Nero, located in the Gothic Quarter just down the street from Plaça de Sant Jaume, offers some of the most massive and filling Italian-style paninis on focaccia bread you’ll find in Barcelona.

This spot is more of a sit-down restaurant with a small, cozy interior, making it a nice place to relax and enjoy your meal.

They also serve pizzas and charcuteries boards, and they have a full bar where you can order cocktails or sangria to pair with your meal.

What really sets Gallo Nero apart is the elevated ingredients like truffle cream, stracciatella cheese, and bufala mozzarella, giving their paninis a gourmet touch.

I tried the Michelangelo sandwich with Tusacany ham, bufala mozzarella, and truffle cream–and it was delicious!

Just keep in mind that the service can be a bit slow, so it’s not the best option if you’re in a hurry—but well worth the wait if you have the time!

5. Serenata

📍 Location: Eixample

Serenata is a newer spot located in the Eixample neighborhood, so it’s still somewhat under the radar.

They serve up Italian-style paninis on focaccia bread, with big portions that definitely won’t leave you hungry.

Their menu features quality ingredients like burrata, prosciutto, porchetta, mortadella, and more, making it a great option for either lunch or dinner.

In addition to their variety of sandwiches, they also offer drinks and desserts, including cannoli, tiramisu, and chocolate cake, which make for a perfect ending to your meal.

If you’re looking to try one of the best sandwich spots in Barcelona that’s a bit off the beaten path, Serenata is worth checking out.

6. Panin Heart Barcelona

📍 Location: Sant Antoni

Panin Heart Barcelona is a local favorite and hidden gem in the Sant Antoni neighborhood, offering an authentic taste of Italy right in the heart of Barcelona.

This spot is perfect if you’re craving Italian-style sandwiches, with a choice between panini or focaccia bread depending on your preference.

Their menu items features classic ingredients like ham, mortadella, salchicha, and burrata, giving you plenty of options for a satisfying meal.

Beyond sandwiches, they also serve up Italian staples like lasagna, tiramisu, and cannoli, making it a great place for anyone in the mood for more traditional Italian comfort food.

If you’re after a more laid-back, local vibe, Panin Heart Barcelona is a solid choice.

7. Gusti Toscani

📍 Location: Gothic Quarter

Gusti Toscani is a cozy spot located on a narrow street in the Gothic Quarter, offering delicious Italian-style paninis on fresh focaccia bread.

You can choose between a half or full sandwich, making it an affordable option for a quick bite. The sandwiches are served warm, but the bread stays soft and fluffy, giving them a satisfying texture.

I tried the Rico, which comes with turkey, tomato, arugula, and fresh mozzarella. It was good, though I found it a little lacking in flavor.

They also have a few veggie options if you’re a vegetarian or are looking for something lighter.

With minimal seating available, it’s best to grab your sandwich to go and enjoy it while exploring all the fun things to do in the Gothic Quarter.

8. SAVTA

📍 Location: Raval | Eixample | El Born

SAVTA has three locations in Barcelona—Raval, Eixample, and El Born. The El Raval location is on the edge of the neighborhood, close to Plaza Catalunya, so it’s still a pretty safe spot to visit during the day.

Unlike the Italian-style paninis at other places, SAVTA offers North American-style sandwiches served on bread similar to a hamburger bun, giving them a unique twist.

Their menu includes options like the Tuna Melt, Special Chicken, Sleazy, Egg Savage, and Cheese Steak, with the Sleazy being one of the most popular. It’s loaded with salami, mortadella, bacon, gouda, and caramelized onion.

With its Miami diner vibes, SAVTA also serves smash burgers if you’re in the mood for classic sandwiches or something different.

9. Sandwich Club

📍 Location: Eixample

Sandwich Club is located in the Eixample neighborhood and offers a modern, full-size restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating.

They also have a bar serving a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, making it a nice spot to relax.

The sandwiches here are large and served on thick, toasted bread, perfect for a hearty meal. I tried the Turkey sandwich, which came with turkey, tomato, egg salad, crispy bacon, cheddar, and romaine lettuce on sliced bread.

They also offer other options like Pastrami, Steak Tartar, Pulled Pork, Meatballs, Fried Chicken, and Grilled Cheese.

While it wasn’t my favorite sandwich in Barcelona, it’s a nice change if you’re looking to break away from the typical Italian-style paninis.

10. Bo de B

📍 Location: Gothic Quarter

I really hesitated to put Bo de B on this list, but it feels necessary to mention it because of its immense popularity.

Located in the Gothic Quarter, this spot has gone TikTok famous, and honestly, I can’t quite figure out why.

There’s almost always a long line out the door, where you can expect to wait anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour.

The draw seems to be the cheap 5€ baguette sandwiches filled with chicken or beef and topped with Mediterranean veggies.

I really wanted to like it, but the flavor didn’t stand out. And to make matters worse, the staff weren’t being very sanitary and were hitting on some of the girls in line, which gave me the ick.

I wouldn’t waste time in this long line—try the other best places for sandwiches in Barcelona from this list!
