Flying is hands down the best way to get from Barcelona to Granada.

Both Vueling and Iberia operate direct flights from Barcelona El Prat Airport (BCN) to Federico García Lorca Granada-Jaén Airport (GRX). 

The flight takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes, and tickets often start around 25€ if you book in advance.

This is what I did on my last trip, and it was super easy. 

Granada Airport is tiny (probably one of the smallest airports I’ve seen in Spain) with only a handful of gates. 

It’s located about 20 minutes from the city center, and you can easily take a taxi or airport bus into town.

If you want to save time and avoid the long train or bus rides, flying directly to Granada is definitely the best option.

Another option is to fly from Barcelona to Málaga and then take a bus to Granada.

Flights to Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport (AGP) are very frequent and sometimes cheaper than flying directly to Granada, often starting around 20€.

From Málaga Airport, you can catch a direct ALSA bus to Granada, which takes a little over 2 hours.

The whole trip usually takes around 5 to 7 hours total, including the flight and transfer time. 

This can sometimes be the cheapest option and is a good alternative if direct flights to Granada are expensive or sold out. 

Málaga has a much larger airport with more flight times, which gives you extra flexibility.

If you’re interested in taking the train, there is a direct Renfe AVE high-speed train from Barcelona Sants to Granada, but it takes about 6.5 hours. 

Train tickets can be booked on the Renfe website and are usually 60-200€ each way, which is often a lot more expensive than flying.

Other train routes connect through Madrid and take even longer, usually around 7 to 9 hours. 

While train travel in Spain is very comfortable, the time and cost usually makes it less appealing compared to flights.

Taking the Alsa bus from Barcelona to Granada is the slowest option and really not worth it unless you have no other choice.

If you want to do a road trip through Spain, you can rent a car and drive from Barcelona to Granada.

But driving the whole distance in one day is long and tiring, and parking in Granada’s city center can be tricky.

• Book flights early: Book flights early because prices for Vueling and Iberia flights increase the closer you get to your travel date. Booking in advance will save you money and also give you more choice of flight times.

• Travel light: Travel light when flying with budget airlines, as they have strict baggage policies. If you can stick to just a backpack, you will avoid extra fees and make the airport experience much smoother.

• Consider Málaga as a backup: Consider flying into Málaga if Granada flights are too expensive or unavailable. The airport is larger with more flight options, and the bus connection to Granada is straightforward.

• Expect limited facilities at Granada Airport: Be prepared for very limited facilities at Granada Airport because it is one of the smaller airports in Spain. Do not plan to spend much time there since there are only a few food and shopping options.
