How to Get from Barcelona to Seville Spain in 2025

Here’s a quick overview of the main transportation options:

Flying is usually the fastest and most affordable way to get from Barcelona to Seville.

Ryanair and Vueling both offer nonstop flights that from Barcelona El-Prat Airport (BCN) to Seville Airport (SVQ) that take about 1 hour and 40 minutes.

Prices often start around 25€ if you book in advance, which is much cheaper than most train tickets.

When I visited Seville recently, I flew with Vueling because it was faster and significantly less expensive than the train. 

The flight was easy, and both Barcelona and Seville airports are well-connected to their city centers.

If you want to make the trip as quick as possible, flying is your best bet.

Another option is to take the train from Barcelona to Seville. 

There is a direct high-speed Renfe train from Barcelona Sants to Seville Santa Justa, but it takes about 6 hours and tickets are usually expensive, often ranging from $100-$150 each way.

Iryo and Ouigo also operate trains from Barcelona to Seville, but these require a change in Madrid and typically take 6-9 hours. 

They can sometimes be cheaper than Renfe, but the longer travel time usually makes flying more appealing.

While trains are comfortable and let you avoid the hassle of airports and luggage restrictions, the long journey and higher price mean this is usually not the most time-efficient option.

Taking the bus is another option for getting to Seville from Barcelona but it’s pretty much the worst way to go.

Alsa buses run between Barcelona and Seville but the routes often follow the coastline and stop in multiple cities, which can take anywhere from 14 to over 20 hours. 

Even worse, tickets are usually around $150+ each way, which is more expensive than many flights from Barcelona to Seville.

Unless you have a very specific reason for taking the bus, it’s far better to book a flight or train instead.

If you want the freedom to stop along the way, you could rent a car and drive from Barcelona to Seville. 

The trip takes a little over 9 hours along major highways.

Driving can be a nice option if you plan to explore smaller towns in Andalusia, but it’s a long distance for one day. 

And keep in mind that parking in Seville, especially in the city center, can be expensive and difficult to find.

Here are some quick tips to make your trip easier:

• Book flights or trains in advance: Prices for both flights and trains can increase significantly the closer you get to your travel date, so try to book as far out in advance as you can.

• Travel light for flights: Budget airlines often have strict baggage rules and extra fees for larger bags. If you’re looking to save money, try to just travel using a backpack.

• Fly with Vueling if possible: I usually prefer to fly Vueling over Ryanair because they’re usually less strict with luggage restrictions and aren’t crazy with weighing bags or checking dimensions.

• If you take the train, be prepared for no wifi: From my experience, most trains in Spain do not have great wifi (even if advertised).  Be prepared for the long ride by bringing a book or downloading music, TV shows, or movies ahead of time.  Cell service can also be very spotty along the way.
