Mallorca Private Boat Charter: How to Book + What to Expect

I booked one for my family and I the last time they came to visit me, and it ended up being the highlight of our entire trip. 

With its insanely turquoise waters and quiet coves, there’s something really unforgettable about seeing Mallorca from the sea.

In this post, I’ll share exactly what our Mallorca private boat charter was like, how to book it, what’s included, and my honest thoughts on whether it’s worth it.

Absolutely! If you enjoy the sea even a little, I think a private boat charter in Mallorca is totally worth it–the turquoise water and rocky coves are unlike anywhere else in the world!

We chose this private sailboat charter for our group of 5, and it was hands down the highlight of our trip with a really good balance of relaxation, adventure, and value for money. 

Since it’s a private experience, you’re not sharing the space with strangers, which makes the whole day feel really special and unhurried.

And the best part is that you can customize your trip. Whether you want to swim, snorkel, or just sit with a glass of cava watching the coastline glide by, you set the pace. 

For us, it was a chance to spend quality time together as a family without any planning stress because everything was handled.

Our private charter lasted 4 hours and included just about everything you need for a great morning on the water:

• Snorkel gear
• Paddleboard
• Life jackets
• Snacks
• One bottle of wine or cava
• Fuel

We also paid extra for upgraded food and drinks and round-trip transportation with hotel pickup. They also have seascooters available for an additional fee. 

The only item not included in the base price is the skipper fee (250€), but that’s pretty standard and having our captain onboard was more than worth it.

The sailboat itself was really nice and fully equipped for a fun day on the sea.

It had a full cabin underneath, a small bathroom, a table and seating area at the back, and space at the front to stretch out in the sun. 

It also came with a paddleboard and snorkel gear that you could use at the swimming stops.

Our charter departed from Port d’Andratx, a marina on the northwest side of Mallorca. 

We were staying nearby at Secrets Mallorca, so it made sense to choose a charter from that area.  Since we didn’t have a car, we added the hotel pickup option, and I’m glad we did. 

They picked us up right on time in a private SUV, and the 15-minute transfer was smooth and easy. 

If you’re staying anywhere on the west or northwest coast, this port is one of the most convenient departure points.

We booked our charter about two months in advance, which turned out to be a smart move since these experiences fill up quickly, especially in summer. 

The booking process was simple, communication was clear, and everything was handled over WhatsApp closer to the date.

If you want to secure a similar experience, I’d suggest reserving this private Mallorca boat charter as soon as you know your travel dates. 

You can choose between a morning sailing (9:30AM-1:30PM) or an afternoon trip (2:00PM-6:00PM). 

The boat fits up to 8 people, so it’s a great value if you’re traveling with family or friends.

We were a group of 5 (my parents, sister, brother-in-law, and me) and everything ran perfectly on time. 

The SUV picked us up from Secrets Mallorca and dropped us right at the dock, where we met our captain, David, and his tiny Chihuahua, Percy, who joined us for the trip.

David immediately put everyone at ease. He was professional but easygoing, and he and his partner Patricia helped us all onto the boat.

My dad has some mobility issues and they were both really patient with helping him onboard. 

After a short safety chat, we set off toward Dragon Island (Sa Dragonera). 

This island gets its name because it looks like a sleeping dragon when you approach from the water. 

David let me take the wheel for a bit (complete with a captain’s hat) while he guided us toward open water. 

The sea was calm, the sun was shining, and we had perfect weather the whole morning.

Our first stop was in a small turquoise cove surrounded by cliffs. 

The water was so clear you could see the bottom, and we all jumped in for a swim. 

You can climb down the ladder if you prefer, but I couldn’t resist jumping straight from the bow. 

We snorkeled, floated around on noodles, and tried the standup paddleboard while Percy watched us from the boat. 

At one point, something funny happened that perfectly showed how easygoing David was. 

He tossed a snorkel mask to my sister, but she missed it and it sank straight to the bottom. 

David just laughed, said it was no problem, and actually dove down himself to retrieve it before we left. 

He’s a scuba diver, so it was easy for him, but we were still impressed by how calm and kind he was about it.

The second cove was even prettier, quieter, with even clearer water and schools of tiny fish everywhere. 

We did more snorkeling here, and then just hung out in the water and enjoyed the surroundings.

My dad had been worried about getting back on board after swimming, but David was really patient and helped him up the ladder without any trouble.

After swimming, David brought out some huge trays of Spanish meats, cheeses, empanadas, fruits, and other snacks. 

We chose to upgrade the food and drinks so what we had was a little more than normal–but it was definitely worth it!

We also had our choice of cava, wine, beer, or soft drinks, and David was great about keeping our glasses topped up. 

Everything was casual and unhurried, and sitting out on deck with a plate of jamón and a glass of cava was one of those perfect “this is Spain” moments.

We slowly made our way back toward Port d’Andratx, passing sailboats and small fishing boats along the way. 

By the time we got back to the marina, everyone agreed it was the highlight of our trip!

Here are a few tips to make the most of your Mallorca boat rental experience:

• Book in advance: Private charters in Mallorca fill up fast during the summer months so you’ll definitely want to book online well in advance. We booked about two months ahead.

• Check your proximity to Port d’Andratx: This particular charter leaves from the northwest coast of Mallorca, so it’s best if you’re staying in the west or northwest areas. It saves time on transfers and lets you start your sailing day more relaxed.

• Add the transportation option: Getting around while visiting Mallorca can be tricky, especially in smaller towns where taxis aren’t always readily available. Adding on the hotel pickup and drop-off makes everything easier and ensures you arrive right on time.

• Bring the basics: Don’t forget your towel, sunglasses, and plenty of sunscreen. The sun can be strong on the water, even if it doesn’t feel hot while sailing.

• Bring cash for tips: It’s customary to tip the skipper (in cash) if you had a great experience. David went above and beyond for us, so we were happy to show our appreciation.
