Honest Secrets Mallorca Review: Pros & Cons to Consider

If you’ve been searching for Secrets Mallorca reviews before booking your next stay in Spain, I’m glad you landed here. 

I live in Barcelona and recently stayed at Secrets Mallorca Villamil Resort & Spa with my family when they came to visit. 

This Secrets Mallorca review is going to be an honest one, because while the resort has some strong points, it also falls short in others. 

My goal is to share both sides so you can decide if Secrets Mallorca Villamil is the right fit for your trip. Let’s get into it!

Secrets Mallorca Villamil is a Hyatt-managed, adults-only resort located in the town of Paguera, on the western coast of Mallorca. 

It was originally the Hotel Villamil, a traditional Spanish property that was rebranded under the Secrets name. 

The hotel has a fantastic location and some great amenities, but it doesn’t always deliver the level of luxury you might expect from the Secrets brand.

So, is it worth it? That depends on your priorities. 

If beachfront views and convenience are your top concerns, it’s a solid choice. But if you’re looking for modern design and flawless service, you may be left wanting more.

By far, the hotel’s best feature is its location.

Secrets Mallorca sits right on what has to be one of the best beaches in Mallorca, with soft sand and shallow, crystal-clear water that looks straight out of a postcard. 

Honestly, the beach here is a thousand times better than any of the beaches in Barcelona.  And you won’t need water shoes here!

The views from the hotel are stunning, and you can walk straight out onto the beach in seconds.

Paguera (also known as Peguera) itself is a convenient area, just a 30-minute drive from the Palma de Mallorca Airport so you don’t have to waste half your day getting to the other side of the island. 

You’ll find lots of shops and restaurants right outside the hotel entrance, though most are fairly casual and geared toward tourists.

If you want to venture further while visiting Mallorca, it was very easy to arrange a taxi through the front desk.

Another standout feature of Secrets Mallorca are the pool and grounds.

The pool area overlooks the sea and offers a relaxed atmosphere with sunbeds and food and drink service available throughout the day. 

There’s also a smaller infinity pool reserved for Preferred Club guests, which feels more exclusive and peaceful. 

The gardens and general grounds around the resort are well kept and inviting.

One of the best aspects of this resort is that it’s adults-only. 

The atmosphere feels calm, with no kids splashing in the pool or running around. 

And the entertainment is more geared towards adults and includes live music, DJs, a piano bar, and cooking or cocktail demonstrations. 

There are also optional weekly excursions like boat trips and paella sessions exclusively for hotel guests.

The views from nearly every part of the property are incredible, from the restaurants to the pool to the rooms. 

I highly recommend upgrading to a sea view room, as the balconies come with incredible sea views. 

I could also hear the sound of the waves from my room while sleeping at night, which was extra relaxing. 

I was pleasantly surprised by the food at Secrets Mallorca Villamil. 

I chose the Bed and Breakfast option, and the buffet breakfast at World Café was very good, with a large selection of pastries, fruits, cold cuts, cheeses, and made-to-order egg dishes or pancakes.

Dinner at the Seaside Grill restaurant was also very good, with quality seafood, meat, and pasta dishes, though the menu was a bit limited. 

There’s also a poolside restaurant called Olio serving lighter meals during the day.  I had a burger and drinks here, which were pretty good.

Plus, there’s the Barefoot Grill, Pintxos Restaurant, and Coco Café to enjoy as well.

If you’re looking to relax even more, the hotel’s spa has jacuzzis, a sauna, a steam room, and hot and cold plunge pools. 

My sister and I booked massages one morning.  I got the Lymphatic Drainage massage and it was fine but softer than expected. 

The facilities could use some updating, but having a full spa on-site is still a great option for downtime.

Plus, there’s a full gym right next to the spa with cardio machines, free weights, and a chest machine. 

The outdated rooms were probably my biggest issue with this resort just because I’m somebody who prefers modern and updated rooms. 

I stayed in a Double Frontal Sea View Room, and while it was clean and well-equipped (with a king-sized bed, espresso machine, mini bar, bathrobes, and balcony), the overall decor was just very dated. 

Think heavy wood furniture and older bathrooms that haven’t been modernized in a while.

It wasn’t bad—it just didn’t feel like a luxury resort. 

But the balcony with lounge chairs overlooking the sea was the saving grace. I really enjoyed sitting on the balcony in the mornings and evenings.

Still, I’d love to see Hyatt invest in a renovation because the bones of the building are great.

Another con to consider is that there’s no private beach area at the hotel.

Although the hotel sits directly in front of a gorgeous beach, it’s a public beach, meaning the hotel doesn’t control it. 

That also means you’ll have to rent lounge chairs and umbrellas from a local vendor, which costs around 20€ for two chairs per day.

It’s not a dealbreaker because the beach is so close, but it’s something to know in advance, especially if you’re used to resorts with private beach setups.

Another thing to know is that the guest demographic at Secrets Mallorca definitely skews older. 

During my stay, I’d say most people were in their 60s and above, mostly from Northern Europe. 

I’m not saying that’s a bad thing, but if you’re hoping for a more social or lively crowd, this might not be the place for you.

And the overall vibe of Paguera is similar: relaxed, traditional, and geared toward an older audience rather than trendy travelers or young couples.

It didn’t really bother me because I’m not the kind of person that interacts a whole lot with other hotel guests but just something to keep in mind if you are.

The service is another area where Secrets Mallorca didn’t fully meet expectations. 

The staff were friendly and spoke English, we received cava and welcome amenities upon arrival, but I wouldn’t say it was 5-star quality (as advertised). 

There’s no turndown service, and around the pool you often have to go up to the bar yourself to order drinks.  I’ve been to Secrets Maroma Beach in Mexico and it was definitely more luxurious with more attentive service.

My parents also had issues with their room (broken air conditioning and a faulty balcony door) and while the staff eventually moved them, it wasn’t handled very proactively. 

And one moment that stood out (for the wrong reasons) was when a bartender told my mom it would be 3€ just to fill her water bottle with ice. Not exactly the level of hospitality you’d expect at a luxury property.

Overall, I’d classify the service as good but inconsistent, probably more in line with a 4-star hotel rather than a true 5-star resort.

That said, the outdated rooms and average service might be disappointing if you’re expecting a true luxury experience. 

If you’re someone who values modern design, you may want to check out Aethos Mallorca, a newer hotel in the same area with a more contemporary feel.

But if your main priority is being steps away from a stunning beach with a relaxed, quiet vibe, Secrets Mallorca Villamil can still be a perfectly enjoyable place to spend a few days in the sun.
