I recently tried Rice to Meet You (cute name, right?), a newer paella cooking class in Barcelona that’s fun, modern, and a lot more affordable than many other popular classes in the city.

In this honest Rice to Meet You Barcelona review, I’m sharing my full experience, including what to expect, what’s included, and whether or not it’s worth it.

Is Rice to Meet You in Barcelona Worth It?

Yes, I definitely think Rice to Meet You is worth it, especially if you’re looking for a fun and affordable cooking class in Barcelona.

The two-hour experience takes place in a really cute, modern space in the El Raval neighborhood, with a maximum of just 12 people per class.

Everyone gets their own cooking station, and the ingredients are already portioned out, so making the paella is surprisingly easy, even if you’re not a great cook (like me!).

The instructors guide you through every step, and there’s even a big screen with instructions and a countdown clock to help you stay on track.

The experience starts with a glass of cava, followed by free-flowing wine while you cook, and then you’ll head outside to the patio to enjoy your paella and dessert.

One of the biggest selling points for me is the price, as it’s significantly more affordable than many other popular paella classes in Barcelona.

My only minor complaints were the limited choice of paella (seafood or vegetable) and the quieter atmosphere.  But they explained that they can’t play music much louder due to neighborhood noise restrictions.

Overall, the entire experience was a blast, the paella turned out delicious, and I’d definitely recommend this if you’re looking for a fun night out in Barcelona.

Price & What’s Included

The Rice to Meet You paella cooking class typically costs around €69 per person, which is definitely one of the more affordable paella cooking experiences in Barcelona.

The price includes the full two-hour cooking experience, all of your ingredients, a welcome glass of cava, wine throughout the class, pan con tomate, tortilla de patata, your homemade paella, and crema catalana for dessert.

Considering some of the other popular paella cooking classes in Barcelona cost more than double this price, I think you get a lot for the money.

Location

Rice to Meet You is located in the El Raval neighborhood at Carrer de la Lleialtat, 16.

Now, you might be wondering about the location since El Raval has a little bit of a dangerous reputation.

I didn’t feel unsafe at all but I’d recommend taking a taxi after the class just to be safe.

Rice to Meet You is pretty close to a main road, so just use the FreeNow app to call a taxi when you’re ready to leave.

Rice to Meet You Barcelona Experience

Here’s a breakdown of exactly what to expect at Rice to Meet You in Barcelona:

Arrival

When you arrive, you’ll get your apron, wash your hands, and get ready to start cooking. They also have lockers where you can safely store your personal belongings during the class.

The experience starts with a welcome glass of cava while everyone gets settled in and the instructor makes introductions.

There were only a few other people in my class, so it felt really intimate and we had lots of one-on-one attention from the instructor.

Paella Preparation

The paella preparation was surprisingly easy, even if you don’t have much cooking experience.

Everyone has their own station, and all of the ingredients are pre-portioned and ready to go, so you don’t have to worry about measuring or doing a ton of prep work.

The instructions are displayed on a big screen TV right in front of you, complete with a countdown clock to help you keep track of each step.

The instructor also walks around the room and guides you through the entire process, so it’s pretty hard to mess up.

Most people make the seafood paella, which includes shrimp and octopus, but there’s also a vegetable option. I have a shrimp allergy, so they were able to accommodate me and I made mine with just octopus instead.

Along the way, we learned a little more about how paella is traditionally prepared, including the importance of socarrat, the crispy layer of rice that forms on the bottom of the pan.

While our paellas were cooking, we also got to try homemade pan con tomate and tortilla de patata.

And there was no shortage of wine! Our glasses stayed pretty full throughout the entire cooking experience.

Dinner

Once our paellas were finished, they served us outside on Rice to Meet You’s little outdoor patio.

It’s a cute space with string lights and tables where everyone can sit down together and enjoy what they just made.

And most importantly, the paella was delicious! After making the entire dish ourselves, it was really satisfying to finally sit down and try it.

We finished the experience with homemade crema catalana for dessert, which is one of the most famous foods to try in Barcelona
