Thinking about booking a paella experience in Barcelona but not sure if the Paella Club is actually worth it? You’re in the right place!

As someone who lives in Barcelona and loves finding authentic food experiences, I recently attended a class at the Paella Club to see what it’s really like.

In this honest Paella Club Barcelona review, I’ll share exactly what you can expect–from the cooking setup and wine pairings to how hands-on it really is.

I’ll also let you know who I think this experience is best for and whether I’d recommend it over other cooking classes in the city. Let’s get into it!

Is Paella Club Barcelona Worth It?

Yes, the Paella Club in Barcelona is totally worth it. I get it, it’s not cheap, but it ended up being one of the most fun nights I’ve had in Barcelona.

I wasn’t sure what to expect going in, and honestly thought it might be a bit more mellow since it’s a cooking class–but it was the complete opposite!

From the moment we walked in, the energy was on another level: music, dancing, singing, bottomless cava, and the cutest industrial-style kitchen space.

Our class was led by Alex, the Basque-born owner, and he was so great–funny, welcoming, and somehow remembered everyone’s names.

We split into pairs and each duo made a different kind of paella (I made the veggie one with artichokes that was shockingly delicious).

To be clear, I am not a good cook, but the instructions were super easy to follow, and you actually do everything yourself with just the right amount of help, so it’s basically foolproof.

After cooking, we all sat down for a five-course dinner starting with pan con tomate, then tasting all the different paellas family-style, plus gazpacho, dessert, and more wine and cava.

It felt like a dinner party with friends by the end of the night, and the whole thing flew by because we were having such a blast.

If you’re looking for a hands-on paella cooking experience in Barcelona that’s just as fun as it is delicious, this is the one to book!

Who Is the Paella Club Best Suited For?

The Paella Club is perfect for couples or groups of friends–especially if you have an even number so you can pair up easily.

It’s one of the more hands-on food experiences in Barcelona, so it’s best for people who actually enjoy cooking and want to be involved in every step.

Unlike some other paella cooking classes where you mostly watch, here you’re doing it all yourself (with plenty of guidance).

The vibe is super high energy, so come ready to have fun and go with the flow.

Is the Paella Club good for solo travelers?

If you’re traveling solo, don’t worry–you’ll either be paired with another guest or cook alongside one of the chefs, which can actually be a really fun way to get more hands-on attention.

Everyone was super friendly, and by the end of the night, it felt like we were all friends sitting around the dinner table.

As long as you’re comfortable chatting with new people, I think it can still be a really fun experience for solo travelers.

Paella Club Barcelona Experience

Here’s an overview of what to expect during the Paella Club experience:

Arrival

The Paella Club is located at Carrer del Doctor Dou, 5 in the El Raval neighborhood, just a couple blocks off La Rambla.

While parts of Raval can feel a little sketchy, this area isn’t far from the main tourist zone, so it felt fine to walk around, even when leaving at night.

The venue itself is very cute with an industrial-style kitchen space with tons of character, fun details, and lots of photo-worthy spots.

As soon as you check in, you’re handed a glass of cava (yes, please!) and welcomed into the space with great energy.

You’ll wash your hands, throw on your apron, and get a quick rundown of the “Paella Club rules”–delivered in a Fight Club-inspired way.

Paella Preparation

You’ll be paired up at individual cooking stations, and each duo gets assigned a different type of paella to make.

In our class we had seafood paella, black rice paella, chicken paella, pork ribs paella, and vegetarian paella with artichokes.

Every station is set up with a portable hot plate, a paella pan, pre-portioned ingredients, and all the tools you’ll need.

The team walks you through each step while sharing fun facts and background on paella techniques and traditions.

But it’s not some boring lecture–the instructors are walking around topping off cava, turning up the music, singing, dancing, and making the whole thing super interactive.

I was honestly shocked by how easy it felt, even as someone who is not confident in the kitchen.

With their help, we nailed the crispy bottom layer of rice (called socarrat), and every single paella came out looking and tasting amazing.

Dinner

While the paellas finish cooking in the oven, everyone moves to a long communal table to start the five-course dinner.

The dishes served are some of the most famous foods to try in Barcelona and are creative and beautifully prepared by the in-house chefs—they’re seriously talented.

We started with pan con tomate (which we learned how to make), followed by a refreshing sangria sorbet to cleanse the palate.

Then came the paellas served family-style, so everyone could try each version. Next was a small bowl of chilled gazpacho, and we finished with a rich, salted chocolate mousse for dessert.

Throughout dinner, they poured your choice of red or white wine, and the cava kept flowing. It felt more like a dinner party with new friends than a structured class.

Shop & Recipes

Before you leave, take a quick peek at the small shop at the front of the venue.

They sell paella pans, olive oils, wines, and other fun kitchen items, which are great if you’re looking for unique gifts from Barcelona to bring home.

Also, don’t forget to leave your email on the iPad before heading out. The next day, they’ll send you all the recipes from the class, which I thought was such a nice touch.

Honestly, if I ever decide to buy a paella pan, I’d feel pretty confident recreating the dish at home after this experience.

Other Paella Cooking Classes in Barcelona

There are a few other paella cooking classes in Barcelona that include things like a visit to La Boqueria Market or a more traditional cooking demo.

While those are great options for a more relaxed or educational experience, I personally preferred the energy and hands-on format of the Paella Club–it felt more like a social event than a class.

But if you want to compare options, here are a few recommended alternatives:

Final Thoughts: Paella Club Barcelona Review

I hope this Paella Club Barcelona review has given you a better idea of what to expect at the Paella Club–and why I think it’s totally worth it!

If you want a hands-on paella class that’s more than just watching someone else do the cooking, then the Paella Club Barcelona is the one to go for.

Yes, it’s a little pricier, but the experience is super unique, genuinely authentic, and just so much fun.

The food was amazing, but honestly, it’s the energy and the people that make it unforgettable. Of course, the bottomless cava didn’t hurt either!

I left feeling full, happy, and like I actually learned something without it feeling like a class. If you’re into food, fun, and not taking things too seriously, I think you will absolutely love this experience.
